Tropical Depression 2, which later became Tropical Storm Barry, caused heavy rainfall over Belize, requiring the evacuation of residents, flooding a number of towns, and stranding fisherman. Three shelters have been opened and additional flooding is anticipated. Belize Red Cross volunteers are conducting rapid assessments and continue to monitor the situation. They are working in close coordination with National Emergency Management Organization to plan for next steps.
The American Red Cross works in partnership with the Belize Red Cross on community based disaster preparedness programs.
