A strong earthquake struck China’s Sichuan province on Friday, April 19th. The first relief team from the Red Cross of China has arrived in the region with food, water, medicine and rescue equipment. More volunteer teams are heading to the affected area. Additionally, Red Cross is mobilizing tents, blankets, warm jackets and household kits to send to survivors. The Red Cross of China is in the process of assessing their needs.
The American Red Cross, along with the global Red Cross network is monitoring the situation. After the devastating 2008 earthquake, the American Red Cross sent $55 million dollars and disaster specialists to support relief, recovery and preparedness efforts.
