Fast Facts: Transportation update for Hurricane Sandy

MARC
There will be no MARC Train Service on Monday, October 29, due to the impending landfall of Hurricane Sandy.

DC Area Metro
The Metrorail system will be closed on Monday. Rail service on Sunday night will continue operate as scheduled until its normal closing time (midnight). No decision has yet been made on when Metrorail service will be restored after Monday.
All Metrobus service will be suspended as the end of the service day on Sunday and remain suspended until further notice.
All MetroAccess service has been cancelled on Monday. The MetroAccess reservations center will also be closed on Monday.

Amtrak
Amtrak said in a news release Sunday that it was canceling all service north of New York at 7 p.m. and nearly all service across the Eastern Seaboard will be canceled starting Monday. Some trains will continue to run in Florida and the Carolinas.

New Jersey Transit
New Jersey Transit will implement a gradual system-wide shutdown of all bus, rail, light rail and Access Link service, starting at 4 p.m. Sunday and continuing through 2 a.m. Monday.

NY/NJ PATH
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced PATH train service will suspend operations at midnight tonight

New York
Metropolitan Transit Authority announced it will suspend operation at 1900 on 10/28/12

Philadelphia
Philadelphia’s transit authority said it would shut down subways, commuter rail, buses and trolleys at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, and officials expected service to remain suspended at least through the day.

Not transportation related, but interesting:
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) will close its trading floor Monday as Hurricane Sandy barrels its way up the Northeast, but Big Board trading will continue electronically. Trading has rarely stopped for weather. A blizzard led to a late start and an early close on Jan. 8, 1996, and the NYSE shut down on March 27, 1985 for Hurricane Gloria; Since the Great Depression, the longest suspension in trading at the NYSE occurred after the 9/11 attacks, when the exchange closed for four days
