Virginia, North Carolina – Hurricane Sandy is located 260 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and is moving northeast at 13 mph. Sandy remains large and powerful as it continues to move up the coastline. High wind watches and warnings, along with other watches and warnings remain in effect for the Mid-Atlantic states and much of New England.
States of Emergency declared in New York, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia.
NC is supporting a shelter and providing assistance to dozens of shelter residents.
VA opened 4 shelters for scores of overnight evacuees and assisted residents as needed.
All Disaster Relief Operations continue to conduct conference calls as they plan for the response to Hurricane Sandy.
The Disaster Operation Center continues activation at a Status III Level with all Groups and Activities present during the core hours of 8am-8pm.
