Red Cross Still Supporting Taylor Bridge Fire Relief Efforts

SEATTLE, August 20, 2012 — The American Red Cross continues to provide shelter, food and other emergency relief for those affected by the Taylor Bridge Fire. Efforts are being coordinated with government emergency officials and community partners.

The Red Cross is managing a shelter at Centennial Center in Cle Elum (Senior Center) located at 719 East 3rd Street. The Red Cross is also assisting the shelter located at Central Washington University. Nearly 200 overnight stays and more than 2,300 snacks and meals have been provided since the beginning of the relief effort.

Red Cross workers in mobile response vehicles are making their way into previously evacuated affected neighborhoods to provide water and clean-up supplies such as shovels, buckets, and gloves. Over 400 items have been distributed to date. Volunteers are also providing mental health support.

Red Cross client caseworkers are available to help affected residents, and can assist with information and referrals. Financial assistance may be available for emergency items. For more information, residents should contact the Red Cross Kittitas Chapter at 509-925-5866.

HOW PEOPLE CAN HELP
Those who want to help can make a donation to support those affected by the Taylor Bridge Fire in Eastern Washington as well as wildfires across the US this summer by making a donation to American Red Cross Disaster Relief by visiting www.redcross.org or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. People can also text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions may also be sent to local American Red Cross chapters or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013. The Red Cross is unable to accept small, individual donations of goods or collections of items such as clothing, food, toys, furniture, medical or cleaning supplies.
